Apple introduces M2 Ultra

A brand-new system on a chip (SoC) from Apple, the M2 Ultra, completes the M2 family and offers significant performance improvements for the Mac. The new Mac Studio and Mac Pro are the most powerful Mac desktops ever produced thanks to M2 Ultra, the biggest and most capable chip Apple has ever produced. Apple’s revolutionary UltraFusion technology is used in M2 Ultra to connect the die of two M2 Max chips, doubling the performance. M2 Ultra is manufactured using a second-generation 5-nanometer process. With 20 billion more transistors than M1 Ultra, M2 Ultra has 134 billion transistors.

Its memory architecture provides twice as much memory bandwidth (800 GBB/s) as M2 Max and offers memory capacities of up to a ground-breaking 192GB, which is 50% more than M1 Ultra. A larger GPU that is up to 30% quicker than M1 Ultra, a more potent CPU that is 20% faster than M1 Ultra and a 40% faster Neural Engine are all included in M2 Ultra. 1 Furthermore, it has a media engine for lightning-fast ProRes acceleration that has twice the power of M2 Max. The performance of the Mac is once again raised to a whole new level by M2 Ultra thanks to all these improvements.

The M2 Ultra microprocessor integrates Apple’s most recent proprietary technology directly, maximizing performance and effectiveness:

  • More than 100 million pixels can be driven by the display engine’s capability for up to six Pro Display XDRs.
  • Best-in-class security is provided by the most recent Secure Enclave, together with hardware-verified secure boot and runtime anti-exploitation features.
  • A 32-core “Neural Engine” in M2 Ultra produces 31.6 trillion operations per second, which is 40% more performance than M1 Ultra.
